DirtbagMaps is a free interactive planner for 100+ hand-curated long-distance hiking trails — the GR20, the Tour du Mont Blanc, the Walker's Haute Route, the Lofoten Long Crossing, and a catalog of other multi-day routes across Europe and beyond. Every trail comes with a 3D map, day-by-day stage planning, mountain huts along the route, month-by-month climate data, gear lists, and the logistics (transport, insurance, booking) that turn a line on a map into a trek you can actually pull off. Today it's all free to use: no subscription, no paywalled routes, and no account required to plan. You can export any route to GPX, Strava, or Garmin, and take selected trails offline. Some extras may become paid down the line — offline map packs, or more advanced planning tools — but exploring and planning the trails themselves stays free.
DirtbagMaps is built and run by Rasmus Rosenberg — photographer, UX developer, and long-time sufferer on trails, rock, and water. It is a one-person labor of love, which is why every route is hand-verified rather than bulk-imported: if a stage break, a refuge, or an elevation profile is on this site, someone actually checked it.
The Service is operated by Rtrosenberg ApS (CVR 38871250), registered in Denmark. The registered postal address is listed in our Privacy Policy.
Some links on DirtbagMaps are clearly marked affiliate links — gear, travel insurance, transport, and valley-town hotels around a trek. If you book or buy through one, the partner pays DirtbagMaps a small commission. You pay exactly the same price either way, and affiliate partnerships never change the routes, the data, or what shows up first.
One thing worth knowing: the mountain refuges at the heart of most of these treks — Alpine Club huts, GR20 refuges, TMB refuges — book through official non-profit systems that pay no commission to anyone. We link you straight to the real booking pages and earn nothing on them, because they're simply the correct place to book. That honesty is the whole point of the site.
DirtbagMaps stands on the shoulders of open data, and credit belongs where it's due:
Trail names and route designations — including GR numbers such as GR 20 or GR 34, and names like Tour du Mont Blanc — are used purely to identify the real-world routes they refer to. GR and Grande Randonnée are registered trade marks of the Fédération Française de la Randonnée Pédestre; GR, PR and SL are registered trade marks of the Federación Española de Deportes de Montaña y Escalada. DirtbagMaps is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or licensed by either federation or any other trail authority, and nothing here should be read as an official or waymarked route description. Always follow the waymarking and guidance on the ground.
