PR 10 — Levada do Furado

PR 10 — Levada do Furado — the trail guide

The PR 10 — Levada do Furado is a 10.4 km trek in Portugal, typically walked in 1 day, with 526 m of total ascent. It rates Moderate on our published rubric (51 m of gain per km, topping out at 891 m).

PR 10 follows the Levada do Furado, one of Madeira's oldest irrigation channels, for about 10.4 km from Ribeiro Frio at roughly 860 m east to the Portela pass. The path clings to the channel wall through the island's UNESCO-listed laurisilva — tree heath, ferns, moss and waterfalls that soak the trail. Walkers come for the cloud-forest atmosphere and the coastal view over Penha de Águia at the Portela end. It runs one-way, it is ticketed, and it needs a transfer back.
