Alta Via 2 delle Dolomiti

Alta Via 2 delle Dolomiti — the trail guide

The Alta Via 2 delle Dolomiti is a 158.0 km trek in Italy, typically walked in 13 days, with 12559 m of total ascent. It rates Extreme on our published rubric (79 m of gain per km, topping out at 2957 m).

The Alta Via 2, the “Via delle Leggende”, runs the length of the Dolomites from Bressanone in South Tyrol to Feltre in the Veneto, crossing eight massifs: Plose, Putia, Odle, Puez, Sella, Marmolada, Pale di San Martino and the Vette Feltrine. It is the longest and most serious of the Alte Vie, and far quieter than the Alta Via 1. Officially thirteen stages and about 11,300 m of ascent, walked hut to hut between fourteen rifugi and two unstaffed bivouacs. The route authority publishes 180 km for the mountain route from the top of the Plose gondola, and 210 km “da città a città” including the 25 km of asphalt up from Bressanone; every stage figure is prefixed “circa” and rounded. The 158 km shown here is the measured line from the Plose cable-car base at St. Andrä to Pedavena — the same track a GPS records, and the one the day planner splits.
