England treks

3 curated routes, 135–1014 km, each with a 3D map, day-by-day stages and month-by-month climate data.

England’s long-distance walking is a network of waymarked National Trails rather than a mountain range, and it is unusual among the regions here in that you sleep in villages rather than huts. Hadrian’s Wall Path traces the Roman Empire’s northern frontier coast to coast, the Coast to Coast crosses three national parks from the Irish Sea to the North Sea, and the South West Coast Path — at 1,014 km the longest trail in this catalogue — clings to the cliff edge for the entire south-western peninsula.

None of it is high: the South West Coast Path tops out at 318 m and Hadrian’s Wall lower still. The difficulty is accumulation, not altitude — the coast path alone racks up some 35,000 m of ascent by dropping into every combe and climbing straight back out.
