Langtang Trek

Langtang Trek — the trail guide

The Langtang Trek is a 58.0 km trek in Nepal, typically walked in 7-10 days, with 3271 m of total ascent. It rates Moderate on our published rubric (56 m of gain per km, topping out at 3866 m).

The Langtang valley runs east from Syabrubesi into a steep, forested corridor below Langtang Lirung, and it is the closest of Nepal's great trekking valleys to Kathmandu — no internal flight, just a long road day. The walking climbs through rhododendron and bamboo forest to the yak pastures at Kyanjin Gompa, where the valley ends against the glaciers of the Tibetan border. Teahouses run the whole way, so the load is light. The valley was the single worst-hit trekking region in the 2015 earthquake, when a landslide buried Langtang village. It has been rebuilt by the returning community, and walking it now puts money directly into that recovery. Kyanjin Gompa is the head of a dead-end valley rather than a pass, so the return is back down the same trail.
