Södra Kungsleden

Södra Kungsleden — the trail guide

The Södra Kungsleden is a 349.8 km trek in Sweden, typically walked in 2–3 weeks, with 5776 m of total ascent. It rates Hard on our published rubric (17 m of gain per km, topping out at 1189 m).

Södra Kungsleden — the Southern King's Trail — is the far quieter sibling of Sweden's famous northern Kungsleden, running about 350 km through the Dalarna, Härjedalen and Jämtland fells from the ski village of Sälen north to Storlien near the Norwegian border. It strings together STF mountain stations at Grövelsjön, Helags and the Jämtland Triangle, but hut spacing is uneven, so most walkers carry a tent and several days' food.
