Havasu Falls

Havasu Falls — the trail guide

The Havasu Falls is a 33.3 km trek in United States, typically walked in 4 days, with 1628 m of total ascent. It rates Hard on our published rubric (49 m of gain per km, topping out at 1591 m).

The Havasupai Trail is the only walking route into Havasu Canyon, on the Havasupai Reservation west of Grand Canyon National Park. From the Hualapai Hilltop trailhead it drops off the rim in tight switchbacks, then follows a dry wash between red sandstone walls for about 13 km to Supai Village. Three kilometres further on it passes Havasu Falls and reaches the campground. The travertine pools below the falls are the reason people come, and the reason permits vanish within minutes of release. The shape of the trip is unusual and catches people out: it is downhill first and uphill last, so the hardest walking of the trip is the climb back to the rim on your final morning.
