Pico de la Zarza (PR-FV 54)

Pico de la Zarza (PR-FV 54) — the trail guide

The Pico de la Zarza (PR-FV 54) is a 10.4 km trek in Spain, typically walked in 1 day, with 535 m of total ascent. It rates Moderate on our published rubric (51 m of gain per km, topping out at 535 m).

PR-FV 54 climbs from the seafront at Morro Jable to Pico de la Zarza, at 812 m the highest point on Fuerteventura and the crown of the Jandía peninsula. A dirt track up the barranco gives way to a stony path across mist-fed slopes that shelter Jandía's endemic plants, ending at a summit cross poised above the cliffs of Cofete. It is an out-and-back: about 7 km and 800 m of climb each way, four to six hours, with no water, no shade and no way down the far side.
